CD Review
Zombina and the Skeletones Staci
Stasis
By Marcus Pan
I enjoy Zombinas body of work, and
reviewed the last two releases highly enough. Staci Stasis is still just
as fun as the previous two and is billed as the final third release of their
7 trilogy. Its a bit poppier and happier than their previous work,
with catchy rhythms and comfy choruses. Theres only three tracks here
though
Over the past few months Ive reviewed work by Zombina
and the Skeletones three separate times. I have to admit Im getting a
little frustrated at the consistent three or four song releases and cant
help but wonder why they havent put out a full length rather than piles
of EPs. I just watched their Wikipedia page get deleted for that reason a pile of
EPs, no full length. Theres a lot to be said about staying under the
proverbial radar, but Zombina and crew have some good tunes and might even
crack mainstream radio if they tried.
We go to space this time with the group with the Staci
Stasis release. A cheeky bite to B-movie space sagas with Staci Stasis,
Astroboy and Red Planet. Staci Stasis is the better of the
three by far with great production and clean mixing. The other two, while good
songs, suffer from sub-par production and mixing. Zombinas vocals are not
as strong on the latter two, under the multiple music instruments plyed by
other members of the band. In the A-side of this release, Staci Stasis,
this is not apparent with Zombinas vocals being a leading edge to the
song.
And since theres only three tracks here, thats
all Im going to say. Its time for Zombina and the Skeletones to
release something heavier. Shrug off the attention deficit disorder they seem
to suffer from and put out a real album. These little nitty bits are
nice
in between albums. But stop mixing your musical career into little
widdly bits and nothing more
make something cool, they certainly have the
ability.
