The Last Warrior Chapter 8

By Jaken Steele

Rylan Kinslayer awoke to a new day. As he sat up he saw the morning sun just beginning to rise. He breakfasted on some stolen odds and ends form the village they raided the night before. When the men began to wake up he went around the camp and told them to spread the word that six men were needed to undertake a quest. He then went about the task of packing his horse. As he was about to give the order to mount up, six black-clad figures walked up to him. Their leader spoke, "My lord, you requested six men to undertake a quest and we humbly ask to be taken into thought for this adventure."

He looked at them and said, "Are you sure? You might all very well lose your lives."

They all dropped to one knee in unison and spoke, "We gladly give our lives to you. All hail the Zahn." Rylan smiled with pride at his men. 'Surely there is no better or loyal army than mine,' he thought.

"Your quest is simple," he spoke. "There are two humans travelling with an elf and a dwarf. Find them and destroy them. And," he added, "bring me their heads. Ride swiftly and with pride, my warriors, and may the luck of the gods be with you."

As they mounted up and rode, Rylan couldn't help but feel a small bit of sorrow, for he knew in the back of his mind that he was most assuredly sending them to their deaths.
