My Mirror

By Jaken Steele

My mirror is a lonely place
It shows me pain and sorrow
It shows me hatred built up over a lifetime.

The face in the mirror lies
It tells me my world is a good place
It tells me the suffering will end.

I have not the desire or the courage to challenge the face in the mirror
I have grown to embrace the loneliness
And take the pain. I welcome them like old friends.

My mirror is a lonely place…for the reflection is my own.
