At HERE - 145 Avenue of the Americas, NYC Thursday, May
25th - Sunday, June 11th, 2000
Telluride, CO - The Telluride Repertory
Theatre Company (The REP) and Lucas Productions today announced an
innovative, multimedia adaptation of F.W. Murnau's classic silent vampire film,
Nosferatu. Adapted for the stage by French-Italian director
René Migliaccio, Nosferatu features a cast of 24, headed
by Nikolai Kinski, son of legendary actor Klaus Kinski, who will be
sinking his teeth into the title role. Performances will begin on Thursday,
May 25th and run through Sunday, June 11th, 2000. Opening Night is
set for Saturday, May 27th.
Drama-Logue recipient René Migliaccio brings this
classic tale to life onstage using a large ensemble cast, working in an acting
style that he terms "expressionistic-realism," set against a scenic design of
shadow and light, accented by the works of Caspar Friedrich and other
18th and 19th century romantic painters. This mood is reinforced by an original
musical score that is an intricate juxtaposition of techno ambient and
classical music by French composers Amaury Groc, Toidoi, and
Beru.
The international design team features French set and
costume designer Francois Tomsu (New Paris Opera and the Odeon Theatre)
and San Francisco visual artist and lighting designer Stephanie Johnson.
Originally presented with great success at the University of
Paris in 1996, under Migliaccio's direction, this new production features REP
members Annie Alquist, Barbara Betts, Suzan Beraza, Jeb Berrier, Bunzy
Bunworth, Angela Cavins, Charles DeWinter, and Lori Vincent, and a
Movement-Chorus of 15 New York performers.
The REP has been based in Telluride, Colorado, since 1990.
One of America's premiere year round resorts, Telluride is home to the
acclaimed Telluride Film Festival and is a summer residence for the Joffrey
Ballet. The REP is dedicated to creating and developing original works using a
distinctive blend of Eastern and Western performing disciplines. These popular
forms, such as mask, gesture, dance, clown, mime, and commedia del arte,
provide a framework on which the company builds each of its creations. The REP
is delighted to be working with NY producer Paul Lucas, who was responsible for
last year's NY Fringe Festival hit Messages for Gary.
Performances will be held at HERE, located at 145 Avenue
of the Americas (between Spring and Broome), in Manhattan. Running time is 100
minutes. Tickets are $20.00, or $12.00 with a valid student I.D. Performances
begin Thursday, May 25th and run through Sunday, June 11th, 2000, Tuesdays -
Sundays at 8:00 pm, with additional midnight performances on Fridays. The final
performance on Sunday June 11th will be at 3:00 pm. Opening Night will be
Saturday, May 27th, 2000. For tickets call 212.647.0202 or visit HERE's website
